Problem Statement

Conventional power drills can feel bulky, complex and intimidating for novice users, making simple home DIY tasks harder to approach with confidence.

Product Requirements

  • Durable, impact-resistant materials suitable for long-term, repetitive use
  • Must be suitable for injection moulding (i.e., consistent wall thicknesses, appropriate draft angles, controlled tolerances, mould-friendly ribs, bosses and parting lines)
  • Limit part count and assembly time for simple mass manufacturing

Research Insights

  1. 01

Traditional drills are bulky to store, with separate batteries and accessories often requiring dedicated storage space

  2. 02

Advanced features such as torque adjustment are rarely needed by novice users and can make the product feel unnecessarily complex

  3. 03

Controls and affordances on existing power tools are often unclear, making operation less intuitive for beginners
